Join us at the NSBRC Self Build Workshop on 27th & 28th February and give your self build project the perfect kick-start to the new year.

Each workshop will offer a focus on energy-efficient homebuilding. From sustainable building principles, air-tightness and insulation to renewable energy, heating systems and smart technologies.
You’ll hear directly from leading industry experts and have the opportunity to engage in one-to-one consultations to receive personalised advice.

Total Home Environment will be attending 'Your Future Proof Home' Showcase held at the Redesdale Hall in Moreton in Marsh on 10th March 2026.
This relaxed drop-in session will give you the knowledge and confidence to take your next steps in improving your home's energy efficiency. You will have the opportunity to speak with retrofit experts, explore ways to cut energy costs and carbon emissions and create a warmer, healthier home.

- a short talk explaining how heat pumps operate and their environmental benefits with real-world examples of performance in UK homes.
- a live demonstration of a working heat pump, insights into installation, running costs and maintenance.

This Passivhaus Workshop is being run in partnership with the Passivhaus Trust and is a FREE event! It will be held at the National Selfbuild & Renovation Centre in Swindon, where there is 67,000 sqft of exhibits from getting self-build finance, plot searching,and foundations all the way through to choosing the right bathroom for your home. There are also full size houses, educational tours and a cafe.
The concept of Passivhaus is to prioritise low energy usage together with high comfort and good indoor air quality in any type of building. We spend almost 70% of our time at home, so buildings play an important part in our health and wellbeing.
If you want the following in your newbuild home, then this is the right event for you:
- comfortable temperatures that are easily maintained whatever the weather using very little energy
- constant fresh filtered air
- 90% reductions in energy needed for heating
- a rigorous quality control process requiring craftsmanship and buildings that are built with care
- a Passivhaus seal of approval guaranteeing certainty of performance
The most successful and cost-effective way of achieving Passivhaus is by incorporating the standard before your designs are complete. It’s also useful if the Passivhaus elements are included in your planning application.

We can answer any questions you have on ventilation and heating solutions generally. We will also be happy to talk through your plans should you bring them with you.

Open all year round this department store for self-builders and renovators brings together 67,000sqft of products, services and advice all under one roof. No longer will you be restricted to particular show dates when you can come and see our products. Check out this video on what to expect.
No longer will you be fighting crowds… you can wander at your leisure or on a Friday and Sunday there are guided tours of the Renovation House and a Self Build Educational Tour each Saturday. Once you register, you will be given a barcode scanner, to easily request specific information on the products that are of interest to you. Why not bring your architect or builder along as well and whilst relaxing in the café (Open 10am-3pm), discuss the design of your dream home with all the materials to hand?
A typical visit will take about three to four hours and the following exhibits can be visited:

LOCATION
Located just off J16 of the M4 at Swindon, the store is open 10am -5.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and until 4.30pm on Sunday. Parking is free and there is overflow parking behind the centre if the front area is full. If you would like to spend more time there over a few days, there are plenty of hotels and guest houses nearby. In addition there is a Coffee Shop on site, serving hot and cold drinks and light snacks.
ENTRY
This is free unless attending a course or turning up at the door for shows. Do bring your own headphones if you want to listen to the audio tour on your smartphone and a mask.

The Passivhaus standard is designed to deliver comfort, quality and lower running costs in any type of building. In partnership with the Passivhaus Trust You will learn how to do this through building orientation to take advantage of the sun, the right insulative fabrics, airtightness principles, wholehouse heat recovery ventilation for good indoor air-quality and screening to prevent overheating.
